How to build it

  1. Cut every member from Sheet C-02 board by board, then write its part ID on each piece in pencil so nothing gets mixed up.
  2. Laminate the legs: glue and screw the L-01 pieces together in pairs to make 8 solid posts (8 screws per post, staggered both faces).
  3. Build the top frame and 1 lower shelf frame: front and rear aprons (F-01) with the cross-joists (C-01) between them at ~400mm (16") centres.
  4. Bolt the legs to the frames with carriage bolts, top frame flush with the top of the legs (bench height 865 mm including the top).
  5. Stand the bench on a flat floor, check level both ways and the diagonals for square; shim or trim legs as needed.
  6. Fix the worktop (18-36mm ply/MDF, 1220 mm x 915 mm) from below through the joists so no screw heads show on the work surface.
  7. Fit the lower shelf boards, ease all edges, and seal the top with 2 coats of oil or poly.

Tools: Mitre / circular saw, Drill-driver + impact driver, Spirit level (1200mm / 4ft), Tape measure, square, pencil, Clamps (at least 4), 10mm drill bit + socket set.
